DescriptionThis is a religious story that, at first, strongly resembles the Bible story about the birth of Christ.

The two participants, Angelita Patricio Tolentino and Nicolás Vigueras Patricio, are mother and son. Don Nicolás was my principal consultant. This was the first occasion in which Doña Angelita wanted to tell me a Tepehua story, and she did not have any prior experience as a linguistic consultant. Given her inexperience, her age, and their relationship, Don Nicolás told the story jointly with his mother.
The track begins with the two narrators having a conversation; they did not realize that I had already started the recorder in preparation to record their story. Don Nicolás realized that I was recording and began to tell the story in Tepehua. Don Nicolás primarily narrated this story, with Doña Angelita contributing from time to time. Next, Don Nicolás narrated a free translation in Spanish. He states that the story is done and then Doña Angelita adds something in Tepehua.

Story (I001); translation (I002).
