AILLA debuts The Survey of Zapotec and Chatino Languages Collection

AILLA is pleased to announce the completion of one of its new collections, the Survey of Zapotec and Chatino Languages Collection by Mark Sicoli and Terrence Kaufman. This massive collection of lexical elicitations is broadest ever to have been undertaken for the languages of the Zapotecan branch of Otomanguean, and includes nearly 80 hours of audio recordings and 1400 pages of digital files representing the elicitation of some 1300 lexical items from 84 varieties of Zapotec and 18 varieties of Chatino. For some languages the recordings and transcriptions are accompanied by spreadsheets prepared by language variety specialists organizing and comparing some of the verbal data in the questionnaire. In addition to lexical elicitation, there is also a number of short narrative texts recorded for Chichicapan Zapotec.
